Equid alphaherpesvirus 1 (EHV-1) a highly contagious and potentially fatal virus in horses that causes respiratory illness, abortion in pregnant mares, and a severe neurological disease called Equine Herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy (EHM). It spreads easily through direct contact, airborne droplets, and contaminated equipment, establishing lifelong latency in infected horses, with reactivation triggered by stress. Symptoms range from fever and coughing to incoordination, paralysis, and incontinence, with no cure, making biosecurity and quarantine crucial.
Since the recent outbreak of EHV-1 in horses in Southern Arizona and the caution to protect our horses, we will continue our operations as normal but have temporarily closed the property to visitors and the general public.
Hopefully, we will be able to reopen soon.
We're currently Temporarily Closed to the public due to Equid alphaherpesvirus 1 (EHV-1) a highly contagious and potentially fatal virus in horses.
